Route 6 in eastern Connecticut starts up at the end of I-384 in Bolton Noch, and continues as a very dangerous 2-lane surface road to Columbia, where it turns into a very nice 6-lane freeway to Windham, where the freeway ends and it turns into a simple 2-lane surface road.
When I lived in Willimantic, CT, I used to go rock climbing in the huge channel cut out of rock in Columbia that appears to have been planned for an exit ramp. Much of that is used for DOT maintainance, but it's unclear to what extent.
There is a plan in the works to connect i-384 in Bolton Notch to the Route 6 highway in Columbia. Some progress is being made, it looks like people really want the highway to exist. The current route 6 between these points is very dangerouns, and very slow to drive (I know, I drove it every day for a few months). A highway would be welcome there, and would really increase business in the Willimantic/Windham area, which is in dire need of rejuvenation.
